University of Dayton Housing and Residence Life is launching the new, streamlined housing assignment process for students who will be juniors and seniors during the 2026-27 academic year. This new process gives students more control over housing selection, providing a clear, efficient, and student-centered experience.
By securing housing in the fall of 2025, students who will be juniors and seniors for the 2026-27 academic year will appreciate knowing their housing for the following academic year is secured, freeing them to focus on the rest of their student experience. This also provides the university with an earlier, clearer picture of housing needs, ability to optimize our housing stock and utilize our resources effectively and efficiently.
Students who will be sophomores in the 2026-27 academic year and plan to live in UD residences will participate in a similar housing selection process that begins in February 2026.
The New Housing Assignment Process
The new housing assignment process for students who will be juniors and seniors for the 2026-27 school year includes five phases:
- Active Application (Sept. 8-29): Through the housing portal, students can update personal information, review properties and pricing, select meal plans (if applicable), sign housing agreements, set preferences, form roommate groups, and select a group leader.
- Pre-Selection (Oct. 8-10): Groups receive selection time slots, with priority given first to groups composed of all seniors for the 2026-27 academic year, then groups composed of a mix of juniors and seniors for the 2026-27 academic year, and finally, groups composed of all juniors for the 2026-27 academic year. Time slots within each category are assigned randomly.
- Self-Selection (Oct. 13-17): Group leaders will select the group housing assignment during their assigned time slot. Available options match group size; individuals see single-occupancy or joinable spaces in multi-person apartments. Filters and live support are available. Selections are final for this phase.
- Assignment & Notification (Oct. 18-22): Students without selections will be placed based on availability and preferences. They will receive email notification and a cancellation window.
- Reassignment Requests (November, 2-3 weeks): Groups can request changes based on limited remaining options. UD Housing and Residence Life will assist as inventory shifts due to cancellations.
Students who do not participate in the fall 2025 process will have another opportunity to select housing during a separate process beginning in the spring semester, based on remaining available properties.
Special Interest Housing: Students intending to live in special interest housing should plan to fill that housing during the aforementioned process.
